As a first-time fur parent, we know that it can feel overwhelming to prepare your home for the arrival of your fur baby. That’s why we’re here to walk you through the most important items to get before bringing home your new dog.

Must-haves

1. Puppy food

The first thing your dog would probably look for the second he/she comes home is some delicious meal.

As a fur parent, it’s important that you give your new pup food made for puppies because this would give them important nutrients they need to grow properly. Moreover, adult dog food might be too hard to process for their digestive system.

When picking a dog food brand, don’t stress yourself out too much. Based on experience, each dog would have their own preference when it comes to food, so it might take a while for you to find the right brand for your dog. Just make sure that the brand you’re getting has all the important nutrients for your pup.

2.Food bowl and a water dispenser

Having a distinct food bowl and drinking station for your pup would make it easier for you to build a mealtime habit.

Choose a stainless-steel bowl with a rubber base because it’s easy to wash, it doesn’t slip, and it won’t become a chew toy unlike a plastic bowl.

3. A comfortable bed to sleep in

Some people would think that getting a dog bed for a puppy is a luxury.

It’s not.

It’s important to get a bed for puppies because it helps them feel safer and comfortable in their new environment. This would minimize the crying and barking at night, especially if the bed is well positioned.

Plus, getting a dog bed this early in their life would make it easier to crate train them. This helps you avoid the headache of having the dog bed turn into a giant chew toy for your untrained dog.

Ideally, you want to get a dog bed that’s cool and comfortable since Singapore has a humid weather. Moreover, you’d want a bed made of safe and hypoallergenic materials, so there’s minimal health risk for you and your dog.

And finally, a beautiful and easy to clean dog bed would make the investment totally worth it.

That’s why a DreamCastle dog bed is ideal for pups and dogs of all ages.

It’s made out of Kapok fiber which is cool and breathable, safe, and hypoallergenic. And since it has removable bed covers, you can just toss it in the washing machine, and you’re done.

What’s more amazing is that you can customize your sheets to fit your mood and style preference.

4. A harness + leash

A harness and a leash are essential especially for fur parents with high energy dogs that need frequent walking.

Personally, we believe that a harness is a lot better and safer for your dogs compared to a traditional collar. This is because collars can create uncomfortable choking feelings for your pup.

A harness on the other is more relaxed and comfortable for your dog, which would make walking a more pleasant experience.

5. A crate or a gate (Optional)

For most fur parents, they prefer to have their pups exclusively staying in one part of the house since it’s easier to maintain.

As for dogs, having their own private space where they feel comfortable and safe is important because it allows them to rest and relax.

When choosing a crate for your dog, make sure they can stand up, stretch, and walk around in a small circle. Moreover, it would be comforting for your pups if they can easily see you or anyone in the house.

6.Treatos for the doggos

Treats are a great way to bond and train your fur baby. Dogs associate treats with positive reinforcement and having them around as a reward for good behavior can be rewarding in the long term.

Choose treats that are made with natural materials and have additional benefits like high protein content, or nutrients for stronger teeth.

7. Chew Toys

Puppies are playful by nature. They love to run around and bite things, especially when they’re teething. Having chew toys for your pup would keep them preoccupied and happy. Plus, it would spare you the stress of getting your favorite things chewed up.

8. Sanitary supplies

As a responsible fur parent, it’s your duty to keep the surroundings clean and sanitary. This would help eliminate the risk of diseases not only for your pup, but for you as well. Make sure you have ample supply of cleaning agents, disinfectants, poop bags, and puppy pads.

Once you have all these, you’re now ready to bring home your first fur baby. Good luck and we hope you’ll have a wonderful time with them!
